Nowadays, 3D games have changed a lot. The present 3D games have brought a new world of gaming to life. Games like Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, Uncharted, have changed the way people look towards games. But one gaming series in specific has brought a new and unique story to the table. This gaming series is God of War. The story of God of War is divided into 2 parts. The Greek Mythology and the Norse Mythology. Each section preserves and continues the previous story while also bringing up new characters and bosses to the games. The storyline, the graphics, the ambiance, and the gameplay in this game is what attract people towards it. Today we will be specifically looking into the next part of this series, God of War: Ragnarok.
God of War: Ragnarok
God of War: Ragnarok belongs to Norse Mythology. The Greek Mythology ended with the end of God of War 3, in which Kratos destroyed the world with a flood. The game has not been released yet. But we will be looking into the storyline that Playstation Blog has released and some other conversations that Devs had with various reporters/content creators, that have revealed some interesting information. First, we will look at the story of God of War’s previous release. It is known as God of War 4 or God of War 2018. At the start of God of War, Kratos is shown living in the world of Norse Gods. This world is harsh, and Kratos, as well as his son Atreus, have to fight to survive in this world. They have to fight against the Gods as well as some unknown foes. With all that going, he also has to teach his son. Until now, Kratos has been a blood and power-thirsty man, but having a son has changed him. He tries to train his son as well as strengthen his relationship with him, and he succeeds to some extent. But he does not want his son to walk the same path and tries to amend the shortcomings of his past. In his run, he kills the son of Freya, Baldur. Freya is a witch who helped Kratos on many occasions. Baldur tries to confront them and also tries to kill Freya in the reaction of which Kratos had to kill him. “The Cycle Ends Here, We Must Be Better Than This” Even though Kratos does it to save her, she swears to take revenge for her son. Kratos tells his son Atreus about his past and tells him that mistakes should not be repeated again. Atreus also has the power to see some part of the future. In the end, it is seen that Atreus sees a premonition that Ragnarok will occur at the end of Fimbulwinter. Now looking into the released information about God of War: Ragnarok. The story starts about a few years later. The days have become even more challenging because of the cold. Fimbulwinter is about to end. Atreus, who has become a young man, wants to learn more about himself. He also wants to know about his ancestors. He wants to understand his position as Loki. However, Kratos, who has suffered a lot on this path, doesn’t want him to indulge in these things. On these challenging days, both of them have to choose some path or find a new way of dealing with this. They decide to look for the truth. They have to do it before Thor comes to confront them. During all this, they still have to deal with Freya, who wants to take revenge for her son. This is the story released by Santa Monica Studio, but this is gonna be the last part of the Norse Saga in the God of War Series. The creators say that they didn’t want to extend the story for no reason. But on other hand, Santa Monica has also stated that the Director of God of War 2018 or God of War 4 “Cory Barlog” is working on a new project. Now I don’t know if you know about this but when God of War 2018 was in the early development stages Cory said in a show that he had Egpytion setting in mind before the Norse, and after some time there was a leaked Deleted scene which showed us Kratos coming out of a cave and watching over an ancient Egyptian city. And in GOW 2018 we saw a Mural that shows us Tyr (The Norse God of War) traveling to other Mythologies which were Greek, Egyptian, Nordic, and Japanese. Now to the point what I am trying to say here is, that Cory Barlog is working on some other Mythology or World that we will travel to next, with the help of Tyr or with some other thing and that we still need to figure out when the God of War: Ragnarok comes out. (Now this is what I think). More reading: Best Upcoming Playstation 5 Games In 2023 & Beyond
God of War: Ragnarok – Release Date
There is no specified God of War Ragnarok release date. Only the year has been confirmed up till now. It will be released in 2022. The previous date that was teased by Santa Monica Studio was 2021, but later it was changed to 2022. The reason provided by creators is that for it to be released on PS4 and PS5, it still needs time. When the date was extended, fans did get disappointed. But listening to the reasoning of the creators, most people understood it, and the creators were supported. No specific time next year can be specified for the release. Keeping in mind the release date of God of War 2018, which was April. It is believed that it might be released around its anniversary. But it can also be released in the Fall or Summer of 2022. This information regarding the God of War: Ragnarok release date is a relief for the God of War Fans. After all, it has been a long wait.
God of War: Ragnarok Trailer
The God of War Ragnarok trailer + gameplay video was released on the official channel of Playstation on 9th September 2021. This is a 3minute trailer video that signifies why people like this game and its story. The trailer starts by showing us the winter at its peak. Kratos is sitting in a cave, sharpening his weapons on fire. Suddenly he hears someone approaching the cave. His son appears carrying a deer on his shoulders. In this scene, we see two things. One thing is that Kratos is as conscious of his surroundings as always and the other that his son has become a young lad. Atreus has learned how to fight as he hunted a deer down on his own. In the next scene, Atreus and Kratos are discussing who Loki is. Loki was the name given by his mother (Faye) to him, and Atreus wants to know more about Loki. To find answers, they journey out. While traveling, they have to fight Freya, who is seeking revenge for his son. Soon they decide to take the help of the Norse God of War, Tyr. They came to know Odin tried to kill him. But he never found his body. This brings them to the conclusion that he might be alive. On the way, they have to fight different beasts and creatures. Then comes the scene where they find Tyr, at least. They ask for his help to take down Odin. Also in the trailer, the hammer of Thor is shown, and he talks to Kratos and Atreus in such a way that shows his bloodthirst. Now Kratos has to protect his son while fighting Thor. The God of War Ragnarok trailer has proved that the fighting mechanics and use of weapons will be on a whole new level. Now we just have to wait for the release! God of War: Ragnarok – Rumors, News and Leaks
Some rumors and leaks have been going around the community for quite a long time. Rumors like Atreus learning about his powers as Loki. In Norse Mythology, Loki has always been a mischievous and throne-loving God. He shape-shifts as well. It is believed that his powers might be explored more in the God of War Ragnarok. As far as the trailer goes, it has been seen that Atreus, or so named Loki, can be seen riding a blue Antilop kinda animal. He is fighting while riding on it. It is considered to be one of the powers of Atreus. One piece of information that was seen at the end of God of War 2018 was the true identity of Loki. Atreus, whose real name is Loki, is a half God, half-giant. Most people expect to know about the past of Faye, the mother of Atreus. Her past might be the only way to know more about Loki. One more piece of news that has been confirmed by the authorities is that God of War Ragnarok PS4 and PS5 versions will come. Before this, the PS4 community was not happy with the decision of the game being available to only PS5 users. Seeing the community response, it was decided to add the God of War Ragnarok PS4 version as well. Users might face one more issue here, and that is the prices for the game on PS4 and PS5 might be different. Users might have to pay an extra $10 for PS5. Another piece of information that has been confirmed is that all the Nine Realms will be available in this game. Before this, in GOW 2018, only six realms were available to access. The game will look deeply into the Ragnarok event, which is an ancient prophecy by Jötunn Gróa. This prophecy mainly believes that all the Gods were destroyed when the time of Ragnarok occurred. At that time, all things were destroyed by natural disasters, and only two people survived, Lif and Lifthrasir. They created human civilization
Every Character In God of War: Ragnarok
The characters that have been shown in the trailer up till now are the following: Kratos The main character in all the parts of God of War up till now. Being the main character, he has changed a lot. Before the God of War 2018, he has always been shown as a bloodthirsty and power-thirsty person. He would even kill gods in his lust for power. This intense fighting made him what he is now “A Monster”, but still, he fought for more power. In a battle with the Barbarian King, he made a blood oath with the Greek God of War, Ares. But after some, he was tricked by Ares and killed his own daughter and wife with his own hands, which he got mad and later Kratos killed him and became the God of War. For most of the Greek Mythology, Kratos was always on a rampage, but the God of War 2018 started a whole new chapter in Kratos’ life. This started Norse Mythology. Here we start with Kratos having his second wife and a son. Soon his wife died, and he had to fulfill her last wish, which was to put the ashes of her body on the tallest mountain in all the nine realms. His character has changed completely in the Norse Saga. He has now become a responsible father. He taught his son the basics but doesn’t want to teach other horrible things. Having a son made him change so much that he even left his Blades of Chaos. He instead uses an Axe coated with Vanir magic which was originally his wife’s Faye. Loki or Atreus The son of Kratos. He was named Loki by his mother, but Kratos changed his name to Atreus, (Atreus was a brave Spartan warrior). Soon we realize that there is a reason for his mother naming him Loki. The truth comes out to be that he is a half-god, half-giant. Atreus wants to know more about himself. So he and his father set out on a journey to find answers. On their way, they fight monsters and people who try to kill them. Freya Vanir goddess Freya is a witch who first met Kratos and Atreus when they helped her heal a boar that they had shot. After that, Freya tries to help them many times but Kratos, who does not trust in god’s tries to keep away from her. She even helped him cure the illness that Atreus was struck with. But the relation between Freya and Kratos became worse when Kratos killed her son Baldur because he tried to kill her. Even though Kratos helped her, still he ended up making Freya his enemy. In the God of War Ragnarok, it is seen that Freya tries to attack Kratos while on their way. On his son’s dead body, she swears to take revenge for him. Odin Odin is the father of all gods. He is also the ruler of Asgard. There have not been any appearances of him in the Norse Saga of God of War. We have heard many tails of Odin from the Mimir and many other lures, but so far we have not seen a single statue of him. It is expected that he might be seen in the God of War Ragnarok, and I highly agree with this, I think he will make an appearance but we will have to see what kind of it will be. Thor Son of Odin, also known as the God of Thunder. He carries a hammer with which he strikes lightning (Many of you must be familiar with him). He had two children Magni and Modi who were killed by Kratos and Atreus (In GOW 2018). The appearance of Thor in the trailer proves that the fight between Kratos and Thor will take place, just like we have seen the GOW 2018 end credits scene. Tyr Tyr is the half-brother of Thor (as in the Mythology). He was the previous God of War in the Norse lands. Due to his actions, he was taken down by Odin All-Father himself. As we have seen in the trailer both Kratos and Atreus found him in a locked dungeon. It is expected that he might help Kratos to fight Odin, or maybe completely escape the Norse Land. Angrboda At the end of the trailer, you might wonder who she is. Well, the only information officially released about her is that she is the last giant alive. But if we look into the Norse Mythology, Angrboda is the wife of Loki and the mother of Jormungandr (The World Serpent), Fenrir (Destined to Kill the Gods), Hel (The Queen of Hell in the Norse). Now we don’t know how Santa Monica will interpret this character in the game but one thing is clear it will be an interesting thing to discover. I have tried to discuss the most important characters but there are some others that I wasn’t able to discuss here like the Dwarf Brothers, also we have seen some mysterious new characters in the Ragnarok trailer, which we don’t know of. So we have to wait for more information about these characters.
Will God of War Ragnarok Be On PS4?
When for the first time, the developers announced that they will be releasing a game, the fans raised the question. On what platforms will this game be released? They replied that it would only be released on PS5. After that, they will release it on other platforms. To be honest, this didn’t affect the PC users that much. The reason is that almost all God of War games were officially released on the Playstation. So PC users didn’t have any expectations from the start. The main community that didn’t like it was the PS4 user’s community. Due to this, the devs had to face some angry people. When the trailer was released in September of 2021, the devs announced that the game would be released in 2022. This made the community sad, who had been desperately waiting for its release. But one thing cheered the community up. Santa Monica Studios CEO announced that the game will be available for both PS4 as well as PS5.
Will There Be A PC Version?
The CEO of Santa Monica Studio has officially announced that God of War: Ragnarok will be available on PS4 and PS5. He did not talk about the game’s release on PC. So should the PC users believe that there will be no such release for this game? The answer is, No. Even though God of War games has always been officially released on Playstation. But later, the game devs do release it on PC. Just like with God of War 2018, which was released on Playstation but later released on PC. We can hope for the same thing this time. To make it clear, even I am not entirely sure. But keeping the previous experience in mind, there is a possibility that it will be added to this platform too.
Is God of War Ragnarok A PS5 Exclusive?
No, God of War Ragnarok is not a PS5 exclusive. It surely was a PS4 exclusive, but now it has been added to the game list of PS4. PS5 is the latest technology that has been released in the Playstation series. For such a popular and high graphic game to not release on PS5 would have been a disappointment. Fans were quite skeptical about the initial release of the game on PS5 only. But the devs took up the community request and announced the game to be released on PS4 as well. The decision to release the game on PS4 as well made them do some changes to the game. It is considered that this might be the reason for the change of release year to 2022. With this clarified, both the PS4 and PS5 users are happy. Too bad for us, the PC users!
Who Is Directing God of War Ragnarok?
The director for the God of War Ragnarok was Cory Balrog. But in the Playstation showcase, Cary Blog announced that Eric Williams has been appointed the new director. It is believed that both of them are working on this project. Cory Barlog has been working in the studio since 2005. According to the director of God of War Series, Eric Williams. It is a tradition in Santa Monica Studios to change the director every game. But Cory Barlog has been appointed the most times. Williams, in this respect, says, “he’s damn good at what he does.”. Eric Williams has been a part of the Santa Monica Studios since 2005, the release of God of War 1. He has been working at different posts up till now. But this is the first time he is being appointed the director. Mostly he has worked as design director for the character and combat. At least playing God of War 2018, to learn the real story and enjoy the game to its fullest when it releases. Santa Monica Studios changed a lot before announcing the game release year. They made changes in the story, changes in combat methods (as seen in the trailer). They even changed Kratos’s whole personality. People have been desperately waiting for the release of this part since 2018. Hopefully, we will get a more improved combat system than the previous God of War game. The wait will soon be over, and people will get answers to their questions. After all, it will be the final game of this series. The trailer created such suspense and left so many questions that the hype of the game has increased a lot.
#1 – Is Thor in God of War Ragnarok?
At the end of the trailer, we have seen a person standing against Kratos and Atreus. This person has a hammer with him and can strike lightning. This confirms that we will see the God of Thunder Thor in the God of War Ragnarok. Thor might have come to take revenge for his children’s death.
#2 – Is God of War Ragnarok the last Norse game?
It has been confirmed by the directing team at Santa Monica Studios and the new director Eric Williams that God of War Ragnarok will be the last game in Norse Mythology. He says that they had a lot of ideas to continue the story, but they did not want to extend it more than needed.
#3 – Can Kratos beat Thor?
This is one of those questions that can not be answered until the release. Keeping in mind Kratos’s skill set, he might be able to defeat Thor. But the opposite can also be true. Maybe, Kratos might be about to lose when Atreus or Loki might save him and defeat Thor.
#4 – Can Kratos pick up Mjolnir?
There are different opinions on this question. One of them is that if lifting the hammer up was a matter of power, not eligibility, then he might or might not be able to pick it. If worthiness is the requirement as we have seen in the MCU, then it might not be possible for him to lift it.
#5 – Who is the Norse god of war?
The Norse God of War is Tyr, who is the half-brother of Thor. His purpose was to sign treaties and provide justice in the Norse Realm. In God of War Ragnarok, we see that Odin tried to kill him, and he hid. Later Kratos and Atreus find him and ask for his help against Odin.
#6 – Can Norse gods be killed?
According to Norse Mythology, Norse Gods were mortal. They could die. As it can be seen, when Ragnarok struck, all the Gods were killed. The Gods ruled and hurt people as they pleased just because they were stronger. They even fought and killed each other for power.
#7 – Is Tyr stronger than Odin?
Tyr was given the title of God of War because of his fighting skills. This proves that Tyr is strong. But in Norse Mythology, Tyr has been shown weaker than his half-brother Thor. This shows that he cannot be stronger than Odin, who is the All-father.
#8 – Do Magni and Modi survive Ragnarok?
According to Norse Mythology, Magni and Modi will survive the Ragnarok. They will be one of the Aesir’s who will survive. They will be wielding their father’s hammer, Mjolnir. The father of Magni and Modi is Thor, the great God of Thunder.
#9 – Who is the strongest Asgardian?
Odin Borson is the strongest Asgardian. After all, he is the All-father. He is the son of Bor, also the father of Thor (God of Thunder), the king of Asgard, and the adopted father of Loki (the mischievous god). He might die in Ragnarok as well. We will find this information in God of War Ragnarok
#10 – Is Tyr Odin’s son?
In Norse Mythology, Tyr is said to be Odin’s son. Both sons of Odin, Tyr, and Thor are not from the same mother. This is why both of them are called half-brothers. Tyr was appointed God of War by Odin because of his fighting techniques.
